Kit Connor has revealed his hopes for Nick and Charlie in Heartstopper season 2.

The 18–year–old actor has been catapulted to fame for his turn as Nick Nelson in the romantic teen drama on Netflix, which is based on the hit graphic novel series by Alice Oseman.

Speaking to Jane Garvey and resident TV critic Rhianna Dhillon during a live recording of the Radio Times Podcast at the BFI & Radio Times TV Festival, Connor answered questions about the hit show’s future.

The chat came hot on the heels of Friday’s announcement that Heartstopper had been renewed for two more seasons by Netflix.

On what is to come in the second season, Kit revealed: “I have absolutely no clue. I put all my trust into Alice (Oseman).”

However, that is not to say that the young actor doesn’t have his own hopes for where the second season will take Nick and Charlie.

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”

As readers of this column know, Netflix’s “Heartstopper” is one of my new favorite things.

Based on Alice Oseman’s web comic and graphic novels of the same name, the show follows a friendship–turned–romance between two British teens, the seemingly straight Nick and the out–and–proud queer Charlie, played by “Rocketman” actor Kit Connor and newcomer Joe Locke, respectively. Their friends include a lesbian couple (Corinna Brown and Kizzy Edgell), trans student Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Charlie’s best pal Tao (William Gao).

“Heartstopper” has done its job for Netflix. The show shot to the top of Variety’s Trending TV chart, with 1.05 million engagements on Twitter in the week following the April 22 series premiere.

Heartstopper actor Kit Connor has called for fans to stop speculating online about his sexuality following his breakout role in the Netflix romantic drama.

Connor plays teenage rugby player Nick Nelson in the show, which is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel of the same name. After Nick strikes up a friendship with fellow school student Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), he begins to develop romantic feelings for Charlie and starts to explore his sexuality as their relationship develops.

Following the show’s debut, some fans have begun to speculate on social media about star Connor’s own sexuality, but the actor has quickly shut down rumours on Twitter by pointing out that nobody else can try to define who he is.

“Twitter is so funny man. apparently some people on here know my sexuality better than I do…” he wrote on the platform.

The actor received plenty of support from fans for his statement, with many pointing out that a person’s sexuality is nobody else’s business to speculate about and that it is wrong to try to define somebody else.
